Method
Chicken Fried Steak
- 1
Prepare the Breading Station
In three separate shallow dishes, place the all-purpose flour, buttermilk, and beaten eggs. Season the flour with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- 2
Bread the Steak
Dredge each cube steak in the seasoned flour, then dip it into the buttermilk, and finally coat it in the flour again, pressing gently to adhere.
- 3
Fry the Steaks
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully place the breaded steaks in the skillet, cooking them for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Gravy

Make the Gravy
In the same skillet used to fry the steaks, keep about 1/4 cup of oil and remove the excess. Whisk in 1 cup of flour to create a roux, cooking it for about 2 minutes until golden. Slowly add the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue to cook until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
