Prepare the Patties

Mix Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Form Patties
Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties that are about 3/4 inch thick.

Chill Patties
Place the patties on a plate and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while cooking.
Cook the Burger

Add Cheese
After flipping, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burgers are cooked to your desired doneness.
Assemble the Burger

Prepare the Bun
While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the hamburger bun on the grill or in a toaster.

Layer Toppings
On the bottom half of the bun, layer the lettuce, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, tomato slice, pickles, and onion slices.

Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
