Fried Chicken

Method

Fried Chicken Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Add the chicken pieces, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Flour Mixture

In another bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with a pinch of salt and additional paprika if desired. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Chicken

Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess buttermilk to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, shaking off the excess flour.

  5. 5

    Fry the Chicken

Carefully add the coated chicken pieces to the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary. Fry for about 10-12 minutes per side or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

  6. 6

    Drain and Rest

Once cooked, transfer the fried chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Sides Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare the Mashed Potatoes

Peel and chop the potatoes into even-sized chunks. In a large pot, boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return to the pot.

  2. 8

    Mash the Potatoes

Add butter, milk, and salt to the drained potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.

  3. 9

    Cook the Green Beans

In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Add the green beans and sauté for 5-7 minutes until tender but still crisp. Season with salt.

  4. 10

    Serve the Sides

Transfer the mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans to serving dishes. Enjoy alongside the fried chicken.
