Prepare Dough

Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, mix warm water (3 ml) with sugar (1 tbs) and yeast (2 tsp). Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Make Dough
In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour (2 cups) and salt (1 tsp). Add activated yeast mixture and olive oil (2 tbs). Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.

In a skillet, sauté finely chopped onion (1 medium) and minced garlic (2 tsp) until translucent. Add ground beef (1 cup) and cook until browned. Stir in grated carrot (1 medium), bay leaf (1 whole), black pepper (1 tsp), and salt (to taste). Cook for an additional 10 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.

Roll Out Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.

Shape and Fill
Cut the rolled dough into squares or circles. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each piece. Fold over and seal the edges firmly.

Prepare for Baking
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange filled curnicks on a baking sheet. Brush the tops with beaten egg (1 large) and sprinkle sesame seeds (1 tbs) on top.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
