Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Red Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Cook Sauce

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute, then add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.

Pizza Assembly

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) with a pizza stone inside, if available.

  2. 7

    Shape Dough

Once dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll or stretch it into an 8-inch round.

  3. 8

    Add Sauce and Cheese

Spread a thin layer of red sauce over the dough, leaving a small border. Top with hand-pulled mozzarella cheese.

  4. 9

    Bake Pizza

Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or pizza stone) and bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbly.

  5. 10

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from the oven, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with fresh basil leaves, slice, and serve hot.
