Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Protein

If using steak, slice it thinly against the grain. If using chicken, slice into thin strips.

  2. 2

    Slice the Vegetables

Thinly slice the onion, mushrooms, and bell pepper.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Cook the Protein

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced steak or chicken, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and cook until browned and cooked through (about 5-7 minutes for steak, 7-10 minutes for chicken). Remove from skillet and set aside.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Vegetables

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced onions, mushrooms, and bell pepper, and sauté until they are soft and caramelized (about 8-10 minutes). Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Combine Ingredients

Return the cooked steak or chicken to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables, and mix well.

  2. 6

    Melt the Cheese

Sprinkle the Monterey Jack cheese over the mixture in the skillet. Cover with a lid and let it sit for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted.

  3. 7

    Serve

Spoon the cheesy steak or chicken mixture into sub rolls. Serve hot and enjoy!
