Calamari

Sweet & Spicy Asian Dipping Sauce

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well to combine.

  3. 3

    Prepare Breading Station

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until well combined. Set up your breading station by placing the dry mixture on one side and the egg mixture on the other.

  4. 4

    Bread the Calamari

Dip each calamari ring into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat it in the dry flour mixture. Place the breaded calamari on a plate.

Frying the Calamari

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil in small batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan.

  3. 7

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Repeat the frying process until all the calamari is cooked.

Sweet & Spicy Asian Dipping Sauce Preparation

  1. 8

    Combine Ingredients

In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, honey, Sriracha sauce, and lime juice until the honey is fully dissolved.

  2. 9

    Garnish the Sauce

Sprinkle sesame seeds and finely chopped green onions over the sauce and stir gently to combine.
