Method
Preparation
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Place the jasmine rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water. Swirl the rice with your hand to ensure all grains are rinsed. Rinse until the water runs clear, which helps remove excess starch.
- 2
Soak the Rice (Optional)
For a softer texture, soak the rinsed rice in water for about 30 minutes. This step is optional but recommended.
Cooking
- 3
Combine Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed jasmine rice, 1.5 cups of water, and 0.5 tsp of salt. Stir gently to mix.
- 4
Bring to a Boil
Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Keep an eye on it to prevent it from boiling over.
- 5
Simmer
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. Do not lift the lid during this time to retain steam.
- 6
Let it Rest
After 15 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat but leave the lid on. Allow the rice to rest for an additional 10 minutes. This will help finish the cooking process and make the rice fluffy.
- 7
Fluff the Rice
After resting, remove the lid and use a fork to fluff the rice gently. This helps separate the grains.
