Tofu Preparation

Press the Tofu
Start by pressing the firm tofu to remove excess water. Wrap it in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for about 30 minutes.

Cut the Tofu
After pressing, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes.

Coat with Cornstarch
In a bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Toss the tofu cubes in the mixture until they are evenly coated.

Mix the Sauce
In a small bowl, combine minced garlic, cherry hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Whisk until well blended.

Prepare Green Onions
Slice the green onions and set aside for garnish.
Cooking

Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.

Fry the Tofu
Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the hot oil. Fry until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.

Combine with Sauce
Lower the heat and pour the prepared sauce over the crispy tofu in the skillet. Toss gently to coat the tofu evenly.

Garnish and Serve
Remove from heat, garnish with sliced green onions, and serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
