Pork Marinade

Glaze

Method

Marinating Pork

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, Chinese five-spice powder, minced garlic, minced ginger, and rice vinegar. Whisk together until well mixed.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Pork

Place the pork shoulder in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the pork, ensuring it is fully coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.

Cooking the Pork

  1. 3

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. 4

    Roasting the Pork

Remove the pork from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off. Place the pork on a wire rack over a baking tray. Roast in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, basting with the reserved marinade every 20 minutes.

Preparing the Glaze

  1. 5

    Make the Glaze

In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, water, and cornstarch. Stir well and cook over medium heat until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes. Add sesame oil and stir to combine.

  2. 6

    Glazing the Pork

During the last 10 minutes of roasting, brush the glaze generously over the pork. Return to the oven to finish cooking and caramelize the glaze.

Serving

  1. 7

    Slice and Serve

Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes. Slice into pieces and serve with additional glaze on the side if desired.
