Method
Base Layer Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 2
Mix Cake Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Whisk together until smooth and well combined.
- 3
Bake the Cake
Pour the cake batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 4
Cool the Cake
Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
Cherry Layer Preparation
- 5
Prepare Cherries
While the cake is cooling, pit and chop the fresh cherries into halves.
- 6
Make Cherry Mixture
In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped cherries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cherries release their juices and the mixture thickens slightly.
- 7
Cool Cherry Mixture
Remove the cherry mixture from heat and allow it to cool for about 15 minutes.
Assembly and Topping
- 8
Layer the Cherry Mixture
Once the cake has cooled, spread the cherry mixture evenly over the top of the chocolate cake.
- 9
Melt Dark Chocolate
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the dark chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth and fully melted.
- 10
Drizzle Chocolate
Drizzle the melted dark chocolate over the cherry layer on the cake.
- 11
Add Candy Floss
Finally, top the cake with the candy floss, making sure to distribute it evenly across the surface.
