Mussels
Garlic Butter Sauce
Method
Preparing the Mussels
- 1
Clean the Mussels
Rinse the green mussels under cold running water to remove any sand or debris. Use a brush to scrub the shells if needed.
- 2
Remove the Beards
Pull off the beards (the fibrous strands) from the mussels. Discard any mussels that are open and do not close when tapped.
- 3
Cook the Mussels
In a large pot, bring 2 liters of water to a boil. Add 2 teaspoons of salt. Once boiling, add the cleaned mussels. Cover the pot and steam for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels open up. Discard any mussels that remain closed.
Making the Garlic Butter Sauce
- 4
Melt the Butter
In a medium saucepan, melt 100g of unsalted butter over medium heat.
- 5
Add Garlic
Once the butter is melted, add 4 minced garlic cloves to the pan. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant but not browned.
- 6
Finish the Sauce
Stir in 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper. Mix well and remove from heat.
Serving the Dish
- 7
Combine and Serve
In a large serving bowl, place the cooked mussels and pour the garlic butter sauce over them. Toss gently to coat the mussels in the sauce. Serve hot.
