Syrup Ingredients

Carbonated Water Ingredients

Method

Syrup Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil the Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the sarsaparilla root, sugar, wintergreen leaves, nutmeg, cinnamon stick, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Simmer the Syrup

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 20 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure the sugar fully dissolves.

  3. 3

    Strain the Syrup

After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool slightly. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean container to remove the solid ingredients.

  4. 4

    Add Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract into the strained syrup. Allow the syrup to cool completely before using.

Combining with Carbonated Water

  1. 5

    Mix the Drink

In a glass, combine 1/4 cup of the prepared root beer syrup with 1 cup of carbonated water. Adjust the syrup quantity to taste.

  2. 6

    Serve

Stir gently to combine and serve over ice, if desired. Enjoy your homemade root beer!
