Wet Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar. Whisk together until well mixed.

  2. 2

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine warm water and olive oil. Stir gently to mix.

Dough Formation

  1. 3

    Form the Dough

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Pour the wet ingredients into the well. Using a wooden spoon, mix until the dough starts to come together.

  2. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky.

Rising

  1. 5

    Let the Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl. Cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Baking

  1. 6

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a baking stone or an inverted baking sheet inside to heat.

  2. 7

    Shape the Pita

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball. Roll each ball into a flat disc about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 8

    Bake the Pita

Carefully transfer the rolled-out dough onto the preheated baking stone or baking sheet. Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the pita puffs up and is lightly browned.

  4. 9

    Cool and Serve

Remove the pita from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
