Method

Meat Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Meats

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef and ground lamb. Mix well until fully combined.

  2. 2

    Add Seasonings

Add minced garlic, chopped onion, oregano, cumin, salt, and black pepper to the meat mixture. Drizzle olive oil over the top and mix until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

  3. 3

    Shape the Mixture

Shape the meat mixture into a large cylinder or loaf that can be fitted onto a rotating spit if available, or alternatively, you can form patties.

  4. 4

    Cook the Meat

If using a spit, roast the meat over medium heat until browned and cooked through, about 30-40 minutes. If using patties, cook them on a grill or skillet over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes per side.

Tzatziki Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Combine the Ingredients

In a medium bowl, mix together the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, chopped dill, lemon juice, and salt. Stir well to combine.

  2. 6

    Chill the Sauce

Cover the tzatziki sauce and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 7

    Prepare the Pita

Warm the pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave for a few seconds until soft.

  2. 8

    Assemble the Sandwich

On each pita, spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce, then add a portion of the cooked meat, followed by shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, and cucumber.

  3. 9

    Wrap and Serve

Fold the pita around the fillings, wrap in parchment paper if desired, and serve immediately.
