Gyros Meat

Basmati Rice

Toppings (optional)

Method

Gyros Meat Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Meat

In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Add Meat to Marinade

Cut the pork shoulder or chicken thighs into strips and add them to the marinade. Mix to coat the meat thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for best flavor.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meat

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated meat for about 6-8 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and slightly charred. Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Basmati Rice Preparation

  1. 4

    Rinse and Cook Rice

Rinse basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine rinsed rice, water, and salt in a pot. Bring to a boil.

  2. 5

    Simmer the Rice

Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 15 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the rice is fluffy.

  3. 6

    Fluff the Rice

Remove from heat and let the rice sit for 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Serve the Gyros Plate

On a plate, create a bed of basmati rice. Top with freshly sliced gyros meat. Add diced tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, and drizzle with tzatziki sauce. Finally, sprinkle crumbled feta cheese on top.
