Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a large bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the whole milk. Beat until smooth and well combined.

  2. 9

    Add Vanilla

Mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

  3. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of frosting on top, and then place the second layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake.

Serving Instructions

  1. 11

    Serve with Ice Cream

Slice the chocolate cake and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
