Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the beans

If using dry beans, soak them overnight in water. Drain and rinse, then cook in a pot with enough water to cover until tender, about 1-1.5 hours. If using canned black beans, simply rinse and drain them.

  2. 2

    Sauté the aromatics

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 3

    Combine ingredients

Add the cooked black beans to the skillet, along with cumin, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine and let simmer for about 10 minutes to blend the flavors.

  4. 4

    Finish the dish

Remove from heat and stir in the fresh cilantro. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

  5. 5

    Serve

Serve the frijoles negros topped with crumbled queso fresco and lime wedges on the side.
