Method

For the Tuna

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tuna

Coarsely crush the black peppercorns using a mortar and pestle or a rolling pin. Rub the crushed pepper onto both sides of the tuna steaks, ensuring they are well coated. Sprinkle salt over the steaks.

  2. 2

    Sear the Tuna

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the pepper-crusted tuna steaks. Sear for about 2-3 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Remove from heat and let rest while you prepare the salad.

For the Salad

  1. 3

    Prepare the Salad Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the mixed salad greens, cherry tomatoes (halved), green beans (blanched), hard-boiled eggs (quartered), Kalamata olives, and new potatoes (boiled and quartered). Toss gently to mix.

For the Herbed Buttermilk Dressing

  1. 4

    Make the Dressing

In a small bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, mayonnaise, chopped dill, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper until smooth. Adjust seasoning to taste.

To Serve

  1. 5

    Assemble the Dish

Slice the rested tuna steaks and arrange them on top of the prepared salad. Drizzle with the herbed buttermilk dressing before serving. Enjoy your Pepper Crusted Tuna Nicoise!
