Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Shrimp
Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Season with salt and black pepper. Set aside.
Breading Setup
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate shallow bowls, prepare the breading station. In the first bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In the second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. In the third bowl, mix the cornstarch, garlic powder, and paprika.
Breading the Shrimp

Bread the Shrimp
Take each shrimp and first coat it in the flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it in the egg and milk mixture, allowing the excess to drip off. Finally, coat it in the cornstarch mixture, ensuring it is well covered. Place breaded shrimp on a plate and repeat with remaining shrimp.
Frying
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a kitchen thermometer to check the temperature.
- 5
Fry the Shrimp
Carefully add the breaded shrimp to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until the shrimp are golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serving
- 6
Serve
Serve the fried shrimp hot with your choice of dipping sauces such as cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, or a spicy aioli.
