Calamari Ingredients

Method

Calamari Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Squid

Start by cleaning the squid. Rinse the fresh squid under cold water. Remove the head and tentacles, and slice the body into rings. Pat dry with paper towels and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until well combined. In another bowl, whisk the eggs and milk together until smooth.

  3. 3

    Coat the Squid

Dip the squid rings first into the egg mixture, allowing the excess to drip off, then into the flour mixture. Make sure each ring is well coated. Set aside on a baking sheet.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or a frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of the batter into it; it should sizzle immediately.

  5. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the coated squid rings to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove the calamari and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

  6. 6

    Serve

Once all the calamari is fried, arrange them on a serving platter. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the calamari.
