Chocolate Martini Base
Garnish and Glass Prep
Method
Garnish and Glass Prep
Prepare the glass
Chill a 10–12 oz martini or coupe glass in the freezer for 10 minutes. On a small plate, spread the chocolate shavings or cocoa powder. Take the chilled glass, run a thin line of chocolate syrup around the rim, then dip the rim lightly into the chocolate shavings or cocoa powder to coat. Return glass to the freezer while you mix the cocktail.
Optional drizzle: Spoon a little chocolate syrup inside the chilled glass in a spiral or zigzag pattern. This adds visual appeal and extra chocolate flavor.
Chocolate Martini Base
Add ingredients to shaker
Fill a cocktail shaker with the measured ice (about 1 cup). Pour in 3 oz vodka, 1.5 oz chocolate liqueur, 0.5 oz dark crème de cacao, 1 oz heavy cream (or half-and-half), and 0.25 oz simple syrup if you like it slightly sweeter.
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds, until the outside of the shaker feels very cold and the mixture is well aerated and slightly frothy from the cream.
Strain and finish
Remove the chilled glass from the freezer. Using a fine strainer (or the shaker strainer), strain the shaken cocktail into the prepared glass. Tilt the glass slightly and strain to preserve the chocolate rim and any inside chocolate drizzle.
Garnish and serve
Float 1–2 chocolate shavings or chocolate covered espresso beans on the surface as a garnish. Serve immediately.
