Method

Preparing the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Form the Patty

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently to avoid overworking the meat. Form the mixture into a round patty that is about 3/4 inches thick.

  2. 2

    Cook the Patty

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the patty on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

Assembling the Burger

  1. 3

    Prepare the Bun

While the patty is cooking, slice the burger bun in half. Optionally, toast the cut sides of the bun on the grill or in a toaster for extra crunch.

  2. 4

    Add Toppings

Once the patty is cooked to your liking, place it on the bottom half of the bun. Top the patty with a leaf of lettuce, a slice of tomato, and a slice of onion.

  3. 5

    Finish the Burger

Place the top half of the bun over the toppings. Press down slightly to secure the burger, then serve immediately.
