Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Remove the KC Strip Steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Rub the steak with olive oil, then season generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. If using, sprinkle the fresh rosemary over the steak.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to high heat. Make sure the grates are clean and lightly oiled to prevent sticking.

  4. 4

    Grill the Steak

Place the steak on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature (130°F for medium-rare).

  5. 5

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to redistribute.

Onion Ring Preparation

  1. 6

    Slice the Onion

Cut the large onion into 1/2 inch thick slices and carefully separate the rings.

  2. 7

    Soak in Buttermilk

Place the onion rings in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes.

  3. 8

    Prepare the Batter

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.

  4. 9

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 10

    Batter the Onion Rings

Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk, letting any excess drip off. Dredge them in the flour mixture, coating evenly.

  6. 11

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the battered onion rings in the hot oil, frying in batches for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 12

    Plate the Dish

Place the rested KC Strip Steak on a plate and top with a crispy onion ring. Serve with your choice of two sides.
