Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the skin off using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut Potatoes into Fries

Cut each potato into even strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick, to ensure they cook evenly.

  3. 3

    Soak the Fries

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or a deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 5

    Dry the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of fries to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.

  4. 7

    Drain the Fries

Once cooked, remove the fries using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  5. 8

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Toss to evenly coat.
