Method
Cooking Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Once boiling, add 1 teaspoon of salt.
- 2
Cook Spaghetti
Add 200 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, typically 8-10 minutes, until al dente.
- 3
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, reserve a cup of pasta water, then drain the spaghetti in a colander.
Making Marinara Sauce
- 4
Sauté Garlic
In a saucepan over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Once hot, add 3 minced garlic cloves and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- 5
Add Tomatoes and Spices
Pour in 400 grams of canned crushed tomatoes. Stir in 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 0.5 teaspoon of salt, 0.25 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Mix well.
- 6
Simmer Sauce
Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 7
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained spaghetti to the marinara sauce. Toss well to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.
- 8
Serve
Plate the pasta and garnish with fresh basil leaves. Serve warm.
