For the Chocolate Lava Cake

Method

Preparing the Chocolate Lava Cake

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with flour to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Melt Butter and Chocolate

In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter and semi-sweet chocolate together, stirring until smooth and combined. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Mix Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture and stir until smooth.

  4. 4

    Add Dry Ingredients

Sift together the all-purpose flour and salt, then fold it gently into the chocolate mixture until just combined.

  5. 5

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling them about 2/3 full.

  6. 6

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  7. 7

    Cool and Serve

Remove from oven and let cool for 1-2 minutes. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate. Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dusting of powdered sugar, and fresh berries if desired.
