Star Course

  1. 1

    Prepare the Space Fries

If using frozen Space Fries, preheat your oven according to package instructions and spread the fries on a baking sheet. Bake until golden and crispy, usually about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through. If making homemade fries, peel and cut potatoes into thin strips, soak in water for 30 minutes, drain, then fry in hot oil until golden brown.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Burger Patties

Divide the ground beef into two equal portions (about 8 ounces each) and form them into balls. Press each ball down gently to flatten into a thick patty, about 1 inch thick. Season both sides of the patties with salt and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Cook the Burgers

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and add the cooking oil. Once hot, carefully place the burger patties in the pan. Using a spatula, smash the patties down flat to about 1/2 inch thick. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the edges are brown and crispy.

  4. 4

    Add Cheese

Flip the patties and immediately place a slice of American cheese on each one. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burger is cooked to your desired doneness.

  5. 5

    Toast the Buns

While the burgers are finishing, slice the burger buns in half and toast them in the same skillet or on a separate pan until golden brown.

  6. 6

    Assemble the Burgers

Spread ketchup and mustard on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place the cooked burger patty with melted cheese on top, followed by pickle slices. Top with the other half of the bun.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the smashed burgers hot alongside a generous portion of Space Fries. Enjoy!
