Pasta Preparation

Cook the Pasta
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Cheese Sauce Preparation

Make the Roux
In a large saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the all-purpose flour and whisk continuously for about 1-2 minutes until the mixture is bubbly and golden.

Add Milk
Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Continue to cook for about 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

Add Cheeses
Lower the heat and add the shredded American cheese and cheddar cheese to the thickened milk mixture. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.

Season the Sauce
Stir in salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well to combine all the flavors.
Combine and Serve

Mix Pasta and Sauce
Add the cooked elbow macaroni to the cheese sauce. Stir until the pasta is fully coated in the creamy cheese sauce.
