Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Mint and Lime

In a sturdy glass, add the fresh mint leaves and sugar. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently crush the mint leaves to release their oils and mix them with the sugar. Be careful not to shred the leaves too much.

  2. 2

    Add Lime Juice

Cut the lime into quarters. Squeeze the juice from the lime quarters into the glass, making sure to catch any seeds. You can also drop the quarters into the glass for additional flavor.

  3. 3

    Mix the Ingredients

Using the muddler or spoon, gently mix the mint, sugar, and lime juice together until well combined. The sugar should start to dissolve.

  4. 4

    Add the Rum

Pour in the white rum over the muddled mixture. Stir gently to combine the rum with the mint-lime mixture.

  5. 5

    Add Ice and Club Soda

Fill the glass with ice cubes to the top. Then, pour club soda over the ice until the glass is full. Stir gently to mix all ingredients together.

  6. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a lime wheel if desired. Serve immediately with a straw.
