Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Glass

Take an Old Fashioned glass (or a lowball glass) and place it on a flat surface.

  2. 2

    Muddle the Sugar

Place the sugar cube in the glass and add 1 tsp of water. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the sugar cube until it dissolves completely.

  3. 3

    Add Bitters

Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top of the muddled sugar mixture.

  4. 4

    Pour the Bourbon

Pour 2 oz of bourbon over the sugar and bitters mixture in the glass.

  5. 5

    Add Ice

Fill the glass with ice cubes, preferably one large cube or sphere to minimize dilution.

  6. 6

    Stir the Cocktail

Using a bar spoon, gently stir the mixture for about 15-20 seconds to chill and combine the ingredients.

  7. 7

    Garnish

Express the oils from a piece of orange peel over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a gentle twist. Optionally, you can drop the peel into the drink as garnish.
