Fried Green Tomatoes
Spicy Remoulade
Method
Fried Green Tomatoes
- 1
Prepare the Tomatoes
Wash the green tomatoes and slice them into 1/2 inch thick slices.
- 2
Set Up Breading Stations
In three separate shallow dishes, place the flour in the first dish, the buttermilk in the second dish, and the cornmeal mixed with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper in the third dish.
- 3
Bread the Tomatoes
Dredge each tomato slice in flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip it into the buttermilk, allowing the excess to drip off, and finally coat it with the cornmeal mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Tomatoes
Working in batches, add the breaded tomato slices to the hot oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
Spicy Remoulade
- 6
Mix the Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, capers, garlic powder, and paprika. Stir until well blended.
- 7
Season to Taste
Add salt and black pepper to the remoulade, adjusting to your taste preference.
- 8
Serve
Serve the crispy fried green tomatoes warm with the spicy remoulade on the side for dipping.
