Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Tear the day-old bread into bite-sized pieces and place them in a large mixing bowl.

Pour the wet mixture over the bread pieces. Gently fold in the raisins if using. Allow the mixture to sit for about 10 minutes to let the bread soak up the custard.
