Meatballs

Sugo di Pomodoro

Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, double smoked bacon (finely chopped), breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meatballs

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Sugo di Pomodoro Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté the Base

In the same skillet, add more olive oil if needed. Sauté diced onion until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.

  2. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Add crushed tomatoes, basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and let cook for 15-20 minutes.

  3. 6

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Add the meatballs to the sauce, cover, and let simmer for an additional 10 minutes.

Serving

  1. 7

    Plate the Dish

Serve the meatballs and sauce over grilled sourdough bread. Top with grated Parmigiano Reggiano.
