Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the steak

Season the flat-iron steak with salt and pepper. Grill or pan-sear the steak over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is reached.

  2. 2

    Rest the steak

Once cooked, remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. Slice the steak against the grain into thin strips.

Salad Assembly

  1. 3

    Prepare the vegetables and fruits

While the steak is resting, wash and dry the mixed greens. Slice the cucumber into thin rounds, halve the cherry tomatoes, and chop the scallions. Slice the green apple into thin matchsticks.

  2. 4

    Combine ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the mixed greens, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, green apple, mint leaves, and Thai basil. Toss gently to mix.

Dressing

  1. 5

    Make the nam pla vinaigrette

In a small bowl, whisk together the nam pla, lime juice, and sugar until the sugar is dissolved.

  2. 6

    Dress the salad

Drizzle the vinaigrette over the salad and toss gently to coat all ingredients.

Final Assembly

  1. 7

    Serve the salad

Place the sliced steak on top of the salad, sprinkle with chopped peanuts, and serve immediately.
