Cook the Pasta
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Cheese Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually whisk in the milk, and continue to cook until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes. Reduce heat to low and add the Fontina cheese, stirring until melted and smooth. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Combine Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni, cheese sauce, sliced Calabrian chilies, and chopped dates. Fold in the fried Brussels sprouts gently to mix.

Prepare the Topping
In a separate bowl, toss the panko breadcrumbs with a drizzle of olive oil until lightly coated.

Bake the Mac & Cheese
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the macaroni mixture to a greased baking dish and evenly sprinkle the panko topping over the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your gourmet Mac & Cheese!
