Preparation

Cocktail

1. Muddle

Place the 8 fresh mint leaves and 0.75 oz simple syrup in a cocktail shaker or mixing glass. Gently muddle the mint just enough to bruise the leaves and release the aromatic oils — do not over-muddle or shred them (about 6–8 light presses).

2. Add liquids

Add 2 oz bourbon and 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice to the shaker with the muddled mint and syrup.

3. Shake with ice

Add a handful of ice to the shaker (enough to chill thoroughly), cap it, and shake vigorously for about 10–12 seconds until well chilled.

4. Prepare glass

Fill a rocks glass or short tumbler with crushed ice (about 1 cup). If you prefer, chill the glass briefly in the freezer before assembling.

5. Strain and assemble

Strain the shaken mixture over the crushed ice. Use a fine strainer if you want to catch small mint bits, or a regular cocktail strainer to leave some texture.

6. Garnish and serve

Give the drink a gentle stir to integrate. Slap the mint sprig once between your hands to release aroma and place it on top as garnish. Add a lemon wedge if desired. Serve immediately.
