Method

Preparation of Turkey

  1. 1

    Prepare the Turkey

Thaw the turkey in the refrigerator for 24-48 hours before cooking. Remove the giblets and neck from the cavity.

  2. 2

    Season the Turkey

Rub the entire turkey with olive oil, then season generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary. Make sure to season inside the cavity as well.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Butter

Melt the butter and set aside for basting.

Preparation of Stuffing

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat some butter over medium heat. Sauté the chopped celery and onion until soft, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the sautéed vegetables, bread cubes, chicken broth, sage, and dried cranberries. Mix well until the bread is moistened.

Roasting the Turkey

  1. 6

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).

  2. 7

    Stuff the Turkey

Loosely pack the stuffing into the turkey cavity. Do not overpack.

  3. 8

    Roast the Turkey

Place the turkey, breast side up, on a rack in a roasting pan. Roast for about 13-15 minutes per pound, basting every 30 minutes with melted butter.

  4. 9

    Check Temperature

The turkey is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) in the innermost part of the thigh and the stuffing.

Resting and Serving

  1. 10

    Rest the Turkey

Remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for at least 20-30 minutes before carving.

  2. 11

    Carve and Serve

Carve the turkey and serve with stuffing and your choice of sides.
