Pork Preparation
- 1
Season the Pork
In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Rub this spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it's evenly coated.
- 2
Prepare for Cooking
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Drizzle the liquid smoke over the pork.
- 3
Cook the Pork
Cover and cook the pork on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and let it rest for a few minutes. Then, using two forks, shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.
Sauce
- 5
Make the Sauce
In a saucepan, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, hot sauce, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- 6
Simmer the Sauce
Let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.
- 7
Combine Sauce and Pork
Add the shredded pork back into the saucepan with the sauce. Stir to combine and heat through for another 5-10 minutes.
Sandwich Assembly
- 8
Assemble the Sandwich
Place a generous amount of the pulled pork on the bottom half of each bun. Top with coleslaw and pickles.
- 9
Serve
Cover with the top half of the bun and serve immediately. Enjoy your pulled pork sandwich!
