Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Brisket

Trim any excess fat from the brisket, leaving about 1/4 inch of fat for flavor. Rinse the brisket under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Make the Dry Rub

In a bowl, mix together brown sugar, paprika, black pepper, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper to create the dry rub.

  3. 3

    Season the Brisket

Rub the dry rub mixture all over the brisket, ensuring it is evenly coated. Wrap the brisket in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

  2. 5

    Sear the Brisket

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add a little oil and sear the brisket on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  3. 6

    Transfer to a Roasting Pan

Transfer the seared brisket to a roasting pan. Pour the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce around the brisket.

  4. 7

    Cover and Cook

Cover the roasting pan tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Cook for about 4-5 hours or until the brisket is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.

  5. 8

    Rest the Brisket

Once cooked, remove the brisket from the oven and let it rest for at least 30 minutes before slicing to retain its juices.

  6. 9

    Optional - Add Barbecue Sauce

If desired, brush the brisket with barbecue sauce during the last 30 minutes of cooking for added flavor.

  7. 10

    Slice and Serve

Slice the brisket against the grain and serve with your favorite sides.
