Cocktail

Huckleberry-Infused Vodka (if making at home)

Simple Syrup (if making at home)

Method

Huckleberry-Infused Vodka (optional, make 24–48 hours ahead)

  1. 1

    Infuse

Combine 1 cup fresh or frozen huckleberries with 16 oz vodka in a clean jar. Seal and shake gently, then let sit at room temperature for 24–48 hours, shaking once or twice a day until the vodka is noticeably colored and flavored.

  2. 2

Strain the infusion through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean bottle. Press gently on the berries to extract liquid but avoid forcing pulp. Refrigerate; use within 2 weeks.

Simple Syrup (optional)

  1. 3

Combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat gently, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and cool. Transfer to a jar and refrigerate. Keeps 2–3 weeks.

Cocktail Assembly

  1. 4

If using fresh huckleberries for extra texture and aroma, place 6 huckleberries in the base of a cocktail shaker and gently muddle 3–4 times to release juices. Do not over-muddle to avoid bitter seeds.

  2. 5

Add 2 oz huckleberry-infused vodka (or plain vodka if unavailable), 3/4 oz fresh lime juice, 1/2 oz elderflower liqueur, and 1/2 oz simple syrup into the shaker.

  3. 6

Fill the shaker with ice, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.

  4. 7

Double-strain into a chilled coupe glass or an ice-filled rocks glass using a fine mesh strainer to remove berry bits and ice shards. If you prefer a spritz, pour into a highball and top with about 1 oz club soda.

  5. 8

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge and 2–3 whole huckleberries skewered or floated on top.

  6. 9

    Serve immediately.
