1. Chill glass
If possible, chill a large wine glass or rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before assembling. This keeps the cocktail colder longer.
2. Add ice
Fill the chilled glass generously with ice cubes, leaving room at the top for liquids and a garnish.
3. Measure and pour Aperol
Pour 3 tablespoons (about 1.5 oz) of Aperol over the ice. The 3:3:1 ratio described uses Aperol equal to the sparkling wine amount by volume; using tablespoons provides an easy measure if a jigger isn't available.
4. Add sparkling wine
Slowly pour 3 ounces of chilled champagne or dry sparkling wine (Prosecco is traditional) into the glass over the back of a spoon or gently down the side to preserve carbonation.
5. Top with soda
Add 1 ounce of chilled soda water to top the cocktail. Pour gently to avoid losing too much fizz.
6. Stir gently
Give the drink a single gentle stir (1–2 revolutions) to combine Aperol, sparkling wine, and soda without flattening the bubbles.
7. Garnish and serve
Garnish with one fresh orange slice or wedge placed in the glass or on the rim. Serve immediately while cold and bubbly.
