Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Thinly slice the corned beef or turkey, if not pre-sliced. Drain the sauerkraut and squeeze out excess liquid to prevent sogginess.

Assemble the Sandwich

  1. 2

    Layer the Ingredients

On two slices of rye bread, layer 4 ounces of corned beef or turkey, followed by 2 slices of Swiss cheese, and 0.5 cup of sauerkraut. Top with another slice of rye bread to complete the sandwich.

Grilling

  1. 3

    Heat the Pan

In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter.

  2. 4

    Grill the Sandwich

Place the assembled sandwiches in the skillet. Grill each side for about 3-4 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Add more butter if needed for grilling.

Serving

  1. 5

    Serve the Sandwich

Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool for a minute. Cut in half and serve with a side of thousand island dressing for dipping.
