Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold running water. Peel the skin using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut Potatoes

Cut the peeled potatoes into even strips for French fries or into small cubes for tater tots, approximately 1/2 inch thick.

  3. 3

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes them crispier when cooked.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a deep frying pan or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the temperature is accurate.

  2. 5

    Dry Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This will prevent oil splatter when frying.

  3. 6

    Fry Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried potatoes to the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Remove and Drain

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried potatoes from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  5. 8

    Season

While the fries or tater tots are still hot, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
