Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Sauté the Onions

Thinly slice the medium onion. In a skillet over medium heat, add a tablespoon of oil. Once hot, add the sliced onions and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until they are soft and caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Au Jus

In a saucepan, combine 2 cups of beef broth, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and let it cook for about 10 minutes. Adjust salt to taste and keep warm.

Assemble the French Dip

  1. 3

    Layer the Ingredients

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the hoagie buns in half lengthwise without cutting all the way through. On the bottom half of each bun, layer a portion of the thinly sliced roast beef, followed by the sautéed onions, and top with two slices of Swiss cheese.

  2. 4

    Melt the Cheese

Place the assembled hoagie buns on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serving

  1. 5

    Serve with Au Jus

Remove the French dip sandwiches from the oven. Serve immediately with a small bowl of warm au jus for dipping.
