Chili Base

Texas Toast

Method

Chili Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Meat

In a large pot over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks.

  2. 2

    Sauté Vegetables

Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and chopped bell pepper to the pot. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Remaining Ingredients

Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, chili powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, and vegetable broth. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Chili

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare Toppings

While the chili is simmering, prepare the toppings by grating the cheddar cheese, slicing the green onions, and setting aside sour cream.

  2. 6

    Toast Texas Toast

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush both sides of the Texas toast slices with melted butter and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

  3. 7

    Serve the Chili

Ladle the chili into bowls. Top each serving with shredded cheddar cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and sprinkle with sliced green onions.

  4. 8

    Serve with Texas Toast

Serve the chili hot alongside the golden Texas toast slices.
