Pizza Toppings
Method
Making the Dough
- 1
Activate the yeast
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it's frothy.
- 2
Mix the dry ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.
- 3
Combine ingredients
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough starts to form.
- 4
Knead the dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let the dough rise
Form the dough into a ball, place it in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembling the Pizza
- 6
Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- 7
Shape the dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 7-inch circle.
- 8
Add the sauce
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the surface of the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- 9
Add cheese and herbs
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the tomato sauce, then sprinkle the dried oregano and basil on top.
- 10
Drizzle with olive oil
Drizzle a tablespoon of olive oil over the top of the pizza for added flavor.
- 11
Bake the pizza
Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 12
Cool and serve
Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes before slicing and serving.
