Method

Prepare the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Beef

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Gently mix with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patty

Shape the mixture into a patty approximately 3/4 inch thick, making a slight indentation in the center with your thumb to help it cook evenly.

Cook the Burger Patty

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patty

Place the patty on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for medium doneness.

Prepare the Toppings

  1. 5

    Slice the Vegetables

While the burger is cooking, slice the tomato and onion into thin rings. Wash and dry the lettuce leaves.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 6

    Toast the Bun (Optional)

If desired, toast the burger bun on the grill or in a toaster for a couple of minutes until golden.

  2. 7

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of the bun, layer the lettuce leaves, followed by the cooked burger patty, tomato slices, and onion rings. Add condiments to taste, then place the top half of the bun.
