Add-ins & Equipment
Method
Classic Vanilla Milkshake
- 1
Prep
Chill two tall glasses in the freezer for 5–10 minutes so the milkshake stays cold longer.
- 2
Scoop 3 cups of vanilla ice cream into the blender. Add 1 cup whole milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. If you want a sweeter shake, add 1 teaspoon granulated sugar.
- 3
Blend on medium-high for 20–30 seconds until smooth. If the shake is too thick, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time and pulse to reach desired consistency. For a thicker shake, add 2–4 ice cubes and pulse briefly.
- 4
Taste and adjust sweetness or vanilla, blending briefly after adjustments.
- 5
Pour the milkshake into chilled glasses, top each with about 2 tablespoons (0.25 cups total split) whipped cream, and garnish with a maraschino cherry or sprinkles if desired. Serve immediately with a straw and spoon.
Chocolate Milkshake
- 6
Place 3 cups chocolate ice cream, 3/4 cup whole milk, 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup and 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder into the blender.
- 7
Blend on medium-high for 20–30 seconds until uniformly smooth. Scrape down the sides once if needed and blend another 5–10 seconds.
- 8
If the shake is too thin, add a small scoop (2 tablespoons) of ice cream and pulse. If too thick, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time and pulse.
- 9
Pour into chilled glasses, top with whipped cream (about 2 tablespoons per glass) and sprinkle chocolate shavings or sprinkles. Serve immediately.
Strawberry Milkshake
- 10
Add 3 cups strawberry ice cream (or frozen yogurt), 3/4 cup whole milk, 1 tablespoon strawberry syrup (or jam), 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice and 1/2 cup sliced fresh strawberries to the blender.
- 11
Blend on medium-high until smooth, about 20–30 seconds. For a chunkier shake, pulse briefly instead of fully blending.
- 12
Adjust consistency: add milk 1 tablespoon at a time to thin, or add more ice cream for thickness. Taste and add more syrup or a pinch of sugar if needed.
- 13
Pour into chilled glasses, top with whipped cream and a fresh strawberry for garnish. Serve immediately.
Add-ins & Serving Notes
- 14
To make a malted milkshake, add 1 tablespoon malt powder to any base before blending and mix until smooth.
- 15
If preparing two servings at once, divide ingredients evenly or double quantities as needed. Clean blender rim between varieties to avoid flavor transfer.
- 16
Serve immediately for best texture; milkshakes will thin if left at room temperature.
