Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ham

Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Place the ham on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan, cut side down.

  2. 2

    Make the Glaze

In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, ground cloves, and black pepper. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth.

  3. 3

    Score the Ham

Using a sharp knife, score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern, making shallow cuts. This allows the glaze to penetrate the meat.

  4. 4

    Apply the Glaze

Brush half of the glaze over the surface of the ham. Pour the water into the bottom of the roasting pan.

  5. 5

    Bake the Ham

Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil and bake for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until heated through (internal temperature should reach 140°F/60°C).

  6. 6

    Glaze Again

Remove the foil and brush the remaining glaze over the ham. Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (204°C) and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the glaze is caramelized.

  7. 7

    Rest and Serve

Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
